From sketchbook, to sewing machine to the Scillies
Last Autumn I made a few changes to my working week in the studio and managed to free up a day per week to spend creating one-off stitched pieces from my sketchbooks.
So now, on Tuesdays, I don't go near the computer, or the to-do lists, and I just dive into my boxes of hoarded fabrics and sketchbooks of treasured drawings and, with no particular plan, no final vision, I sew and see what happens.
As I began to build up a body of work, I decided, somewhat hesitantly, that the pieces might reach an audience beyond us at the studio.
So, I began researching framers and plucked up the courage to contact the lovely Karen of Bryher Gallery to see if she would like to show the pieces.
Karen has sold our textiles range for a couple of years now and she was really pleased to offer space to the new work.
So, after some monumental packing, the first group of pictures left for Scilly at the beginning of April where the one of Rushy Bay artworks sold almost immediately. I can’t describe the incredible excitement of selling a piece like this.
This means my plan to be an artist on Tuesdays might actually have legs!

To see the pieces, you will need to visit Bryher Gallery on the Isles of Scilly. Meanwhile I am full steam ahead with my Tuesday work and will be packing up more pieces for Bryher very soon.
