Sketching on the Helford

Sketching on the Helford

A few weeks ago, Justin and I decided to embark on a big(ish) hike around the Helford, near Falmouth in Cornwall. We used the iwalk Cornwall app to download and follow a circular walk which worked really well. The app. pings each time you get to a decision and gives really detailed instructions as well as points of interest.

Starting at Durgan we passed Trebah gardens, walked through Helford passage and Port Navas, catching river glimpses through the rain.

I managed to create a few sketches in spite of the rain, in fact, I quite like what the rain added to them, turning my water-soluble pen to something closer to watercolour. We tried to eat our lunch at Port Navas where we were joined to two rather threatening swans.

We were rewarded after our hike with a night spent at the beautiful Budock Vean Hotel where we enjoyed a tasty supper and perhaps a little too much wine!

Our mini dry mats came in very handy!
