My armadillo fabric came from a little sketch I made in the natural history museum in Oxford. I’ve always scooted through the museum on my way to the Pitt Rivers museum at the back but this time I tarried a while to sketch.
I developed the palette for the fabric from a collection of plants I bought in the spring. Marigolds, lavender and chives – the colours looked do lovely together I knew I wanted to use them for something.
To create the fabric I embroidered a little armadillo. I then worked on the computer to put him into repeat and narrow down the colours. The fabric is then digitally printed up in Staffordshire, cut in our studio in Cornwall and stitched by my clever stitchers.
