We recently began weekly 'blackboard fun' from our Padstow shop! Outside the shop you'll find a little blackboard and each week we'll be chalking up something different on there, sometimes a joke, sometimes perhaps something else... OK, maybe we're making this up as we go along a little bit! If you want to get involved then simply take a snap of the blackboard and share it to facebook, twitter or instagram using the #PoppyTreffryPadstow. Each week we'll choose a winner at random from those that have used the hashtag and they'll get a little PT treat in the post. You don't even have to come inside the shop if you don't want to, although we really think you should, but we love to see your photo's and we love to know you're there, like a virtual wave! So grab your phone or camera, take a snap and share with us using #poppytreffrypadstow and we hope to see you soon at our Padstow shop or on the world wide web! ;-)
It would seem we've almost arrived at February half term already, how did we get here?! With a pretty mild winter so far it feels like Spring is just around the corner, yippee! But before we get carried away lets think about some fun things to do during half term, if you find yourselves in Cornwall and at a loose end. Of course anything we tell you about things to do in Cornwall always has to start with a visit to one of our shops, either in Padstow or St Ives. Check out our shop page for full opening hours but we expect to see you for a visit! If you're heading to see us in Padstow then it would be rude not to arrive by bike! The camel trail is a lovely flat cycle path that you can follow all the way from St Breward to Padstow, approx 18 miles, or you can start at Bodmin or Wadebridge for a shorter ride. It's a lovely way to approach Padstow and good fun for all the family, with plenty of bike hire available. (Nice on foot too.) And if you find yourself in Wadebridge for the Camel trail then we also recommend a trip to Strong Adolfo's, big on cakes and fika time, and generally a very lovely place to stop for a cuppa. And if the camel trail feels a bit pedestrian to you (and you decide to drive or catch a ferry over to visit our shop on another day) then try Cardinham Woods where there are various bike trails for different abilities and, because we're all about the cake, a very lovely cafe! When we discussed as a team favourite things to do in Cornwall, hunting for cowrie shells came up quite a few times. No-one was keen to share their secret spots (meanies!) but we can tell you that the south coast seems to be better for discovering these precious treasures and the further into west Cornwall you go the better, which leads neatly onto visiting our shop in St Ives! And just as we strongly insist you arrive by bike to our Padstow shop, so we encourage you to take the train for St Ives. Rightly known as one of the most beautiful railway lines in the country this short journey will mean you avoid any of the (well publicised) parking issues in St Ives and navigating narrow streets and arrive calm, relaxed and having enjoyed stunning cliff top views. Obviously because it's Feb half term we're talking about we can't guarantee blue skies and warmth but it's Cornwall, you always need a coat just in case! Whilst you're in St Ives it's worth checking out whether the St Ives Mermaid will be appearing anywhere. This wonderful, mystical creature can often be found appearing on St Ives beaches, much to the delight of children and adults alike. Who doesn't love a mermaid?! You can find out more about the St Ives Mermaid over on her instagram account. Or you could always make like your own mermaid and enjoy a dip of your own. Those familiar with us here at Team Treffry know that we love a bit of cold water swimming/jumping in, shrieking and getting out! It generally means you've earned the tea and cake! So once you've cycled your bike, eaten some cake, found some shells, swum in the sea then eaten some more cake (phew!) finish your journey at our St Ives shop. Re-opening on the 11th Feb from it's spring cleaning, you'll find the largest selection of our colourful range you could ever hope to find and a warm welcome from our friendly shop team. So there you have it. Let us know if you've got suggestions for things to do during February half term in Cornwall and definitely let us know if you get up to any of the above. And if it rains for the entire week, which is not beyond the realms, then tuck up in a cafe with a view, a good book, entertainment for anyone that's with you and enjoy some Cornish peace!
