    Just Horsin' Around!

We love our tea towel designs - you seem to love our tea towel designs as well! Poppy has been a very busy (sewing) bee these last few months.  She's designed lots of new gorgeous tea towels including the new 'Pony Club' especially for Anthropology UK. Pony Club tea towel by Poppy Treffry   Ponies and horses aren't the easiest subject to sketch, and this design took Poppy a little while to perfect but we all think she did a pretty good job! [gallery ids="|"] A tea towel design starts with a sketch in one of Poppy's many sketch books, then Poppy will cut the individual pieces from fabric (usually fine, vintage or found pieces she has hidden away in the studio) and then she'll sit at her trusty old Singer sewing machine and freehand machine embroider the pieces to a tea towel-sized piece of cotton.  This will then get sent away to the local screen printing company for them to print.  We think you'll agree this is another pretty, individual design from the brain of Poppy Treffry. To see all of our tea towels, pop along to our website and for our exclusive Anthropologie UK designs check out their website. TTFN, Team Treffry. x

    Work Experience at Poppy Treffry!

Over the past two weeks I have been lucky enough to complete a work experience placement with Poppy and the team at Poppy Treffry! I am a huge fan of their designs, and have used them for inspiration many times over the years of studying Textiles. I was therefore super excited to get started, and I sure haven't been disappointed! I have spent most of my time at the studio in Penzance. It has been fascinating to be able to see all of the behind the scenes of the studio and business, and see all of the amazing work that team Treffry do! Everyone has been ever so friendly and welcoming, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. It has also been lovely to be able to explore the area of Penzance, as I have never visited before! It's such an idyllic place, especially for photographs! DSC00359 The most exciting part of my experience was being able to use the traditional Singer sewing machines for the very first time, as I have always wanted to use one! The problem is that now I have used one, I would really love to have one of my own! I have really enjoyed each of my sewing roles, helping Liz to make the bags in the 'bag factory'. It's really exciting to be able to make a part of something that is going to be sold at Poppy Treffry! singer2 I have also been lucky enough to spend a couple of days at the Poppy Treffry shop in St Ives. I have always wanted to visit Poppy's shop, and so was really excited to finally see it in person! The shop is simply gorgeous, and is set in such an idyllic location. As Poppy has just this week began refurbishments in the shop, I have been very much involved in clearing all of the stock and fixtures from the shop, and helping begin the re-fit! This has involved lots and lots of painting! It has been really interesting to watch the shop slowly transform, and I have really enjoyed doing something completely different. st-ives St Ives has such stunning scenery, I couldn't resist exploring a little and taking some more snaps along the way.. st-ives-beach-collage I have had the opportunity to experience and get involved in so many different roles of the business, and I have learnt so much along the way. It has been such an amazing learning experience for me, and is extremely valuable to my future in textiles. I'm feeling very inspired by my time here, and am looking forward to getting back to University in Cardiff and practising all that I have learnt. I am very thankful to all of the team at Poppy Treffry for welcoming me into their little world, and am extremely grateful for having the opportunity! It's such a lovely place to work, and I would recommend it to anyone who has a love for textiles! Thanks for having me! Kelly x

    Bathing Beauties

Bathing beauties tea towel Bathing beauties tea towel.

With the new bathing beauties design added to our range for 2014 we felt it only right that we should make like a bathing beauty and have our first dip of the year. Various members of Team Treffry have been heading to the swimming pool every Wednesday lunchtime for a few lengths but with the pool being closed temporarily we decided there was nothing quite like a bracing dip in the atlantic, in April! poppy Treffry Catalogue shot of our new tea towel design

Trouble was, the day we decided we might go for a swim the following day was warm and Spring like and when the allotted swim day arrived it was a proper cold, Cornish grey and mizzly day! A quick facebook and twitter poll decided it though, more people said we should than said we shouldn't! And after nearly chickening out we found ourselves on the prom in Penzance changing into our swimming things in the persistent drizzle, lovely! But guess what, it was great, refreshing, rejuvenating, life affirming, and really, really cold!!! We only managed about 5 minutes and getting changed afterwards wasn't a whole heap of fun (especially as a couple of coats had found their ways into puddles!) but we all felt good afterwards and ready to do it again next week! bathing beauties bathing beauties.

We reckon this lot might be swimming on the french riviera in summer rather than off the prom in Penzance in April, we certainly weren't looking quite this chic!! Let us know about your bathing beauty experiences!
