    Birthday month gift guide

October really is the month where we keep on giving!

With so many birthdays of friends and family all needing a carefully thought out gift we know how tricky it can be to choose the perfect present so we have put together some suggestions from our collections to help you…

    For a dog lover:

Don’t waste time barking up the wrong tree and treat the dog lover in your life to a four legged friends gift. The dachshund fabric is a smile winner, but the four legged friends design has most dog breeds covered!

    For a walker:

Save yourself trekking round the shops looking for inspiration and choose a mini dry mat to be popped in a bag and whipped out when a rest is needed but the seating is just too damp. Pair it with a snack pouch for the Kendal mint cake and your loved one is prepped for their next ramble.

    For a tea lover:

With our products being ‘stitched by the sea with a nice cup of tea’ we know the importance of a good cuppa! Our tea cosies, mugs and coasters are perfect for other tea lovers wanting to create the perfect atmosphere for enjoying their hot brew.

    For a Cornish seaside fan:

You may not be able to bring them the salty wind in their hair, but you can give them a gift handmade by the Cornish coast to remind them of holidays. Perhaps the seagulls can protect their sandwiches in a wrap rather than pinching them? The seaside lunch bag is a lovely scene to carry around and the seagull coasters say it all really – “Oh I do like to be beside the seaside”.

    For a stitcher:

You’ll be able to find a wonderful gift for the stitcher in your life with these products which all have the sewing theme threading through them. The sewing mug, project bag and badge all feature the iconic Singer machine that Poppy does all her original design on.

    For an eco-conscious eater:

Just like good friends, these gift ideas are ready to join the lunch table or picnic blanket again and again. When we were all bringing our own reusable lunch carriers into the studio we knew it was time to start making our own! The sandwich wraps, lunch bags and new snack pouches are so popular, making wonderful gift sets when grouped together.

    For a wild swimmer:

Don’t get your bikini bottoms in a twist thinking of a gift for a wild swimming fan, we make gifts that are beautiful and practical!
The bathers large wash bag is made to fit a cossie and Turkish towel in with a water resistant lining. The bathers sandwich wrap can be tucked in too with a yummy snack ready for re-energising after a dip.

Sewing Club! Tutorial: Crafty tea towel projects – wall tidy

We have a regular sewing club in our studio. Time to remember sewing just for fun, sewing our own clothes, sewing Christmas presents, all sorts. And we're thinking of our blog projects like a bit of a sewing club we can share with you. A regular tutorial where you can create a gift, or a treat for yourself and just enjoy a bit of sewing! In this episode of sewing club we bring you... the wall tidy! wall-tidy-Bathing-beauty-LR You will need:
A lovely Poppy Treffry 'Bathing Beauties' Tea towel
    Tape measure
    Scissors
    Pins
Backing fabric (you could use an old pillow case or similar)
    Sewing machine
you will need - wall tidy
First, cut your backing fabric to the same size as your tea towel and hem on all 4 sides. sewing hem - image 2Next cut your bathing beauties tea towel into 3 strips (with 3 bathing beauties on each strip) layers - wall tidyHem the top only of each strip edges - wall tidyPlace the hemmed backing fabric face up and place strips face down, spaced out evenly over the backing fabric. (use a tape measure to make sure)

Pin strips in place. backing - wall tidy Sew along the bottom (where the bathing beauties feet are - mind their toes now!) of each strip and, when sewn, flip the strips over so you can now see the bathing beauties in all their glory.

    pockets - wall tidy

Now pin and sew up between each bathing beauty from the bottom of the wall hanging all the way to the top, to create the pockets.

sewing pocket seams - wall tidyUsing some of the left over fabric from the tea towel, cut three 10cm by 20cm strips. Iron each long side into the centre and then fold in half length ways to creat the hanging loops.

    tabs - wall tidy

Pin the folded tabs to the top of the wall tidy and sew. We've sewn a cross to make it a bit stronger.
