How to stay plastic free in Cornwall
1. Bring your own re-usable coffee cup
They are an easy way to do your bit for the planet, and a vital first step in establishing a long term solution to plastic pollution.
As well as supporting a sustainable future, these cups can save you a lot of money. More and more cafes are offering a discount to eco-friendly customers for their skinny mocha or flat white when they bring in their re-usable cups.
They're also great for your ice cream (perfect for those who can't have the wafer cones)!
Our favourites are from the Cornish company rCup. Not only are they recyclable, they are made from recycled cups. What a marvellous idea!
2. Wooden belly boards
Perfect alternative (in fact THE original belly boards!) to the cheap polystyrene ones. They are more expensive but if you can afford them they are so worth it! You can use them time and time again and when not used they look lovely as a home accessory! Polystyrene body boards break easily in the waves and quite often don't last longer than a day... :(
3. Join the 2 minute beach clean campaign
Many seaside cafes and similar establishments provide rubbish bags and litter pickers you can take with you. The more of us join in and spend 2 minutes clearing up the better! Some establishments will also reward you with a free coffee! Wonderful!
4. Use our re-usable sandwich wraps
They're not just super cute, they serve a very important purpose! Instead of packing your yummy picnic in cling film, pop your sandwiches/biscuits/rice cakes in one of these. They will bring a smile to your face with their cute design and the fact you're doing something good for the planet :)
